Another Cookbook!

I went and did it again. Would you believe I have yet another Cookbook in my collection? What possessed me to make that purchase? Good Grief! And my husband asked me about it when I got home from my errands this morning. I have mentioned that I am a Cookbook Junkie so that just reinforces that assessment of me. Welcome to my cache of cookbooks.

Why do I think that I need yet another cook book?

Another Cookbook

Let me begin by saying this cook book has a mission to it. It is a fund raiser for our town’s swimming pool that needs some repairs. Because we are a very small community we absolutely need that swimming pool for our kids to have something to do in the summertime. Our kids have the choice of swimming, recreational baseball, or working on dad’s farm. So you can see how important this project is. Even the kids working on dad’s farm get to come into town for entertainment.

And it is not just kids that utilize the swimming pool. There is time reserved for women to come and swim by themselves. The ladies can swim and not have smaller children splashing around them. Also, businesses can rent the pool for office parties. At one time swimming lessons were offered to adults. One of our physicians and his wife took those classes because they never learned how to swim.

Another Cookbook for a cause.

So, how can a person say no to our kids? I was not able to say no, not when it was to benefit our kids. Besides, I sold way too many Girl Scout cookies when I was in school. So when I was at our bank and saw them for sale I jumped at the chance to buy one. It’s for the kids, right? Several of the local businesses donated services to help with this fund raiser so that more money went to the renovations.

In addition to the cookbook there will be a dinner and auction to raise money for this project. There will be dinner served and the committee is bringing in “Dueling Pianos” (two pianos and pianists) to provide musical entertainment to start off the evening. The committee has done an excellent job of contacting the local businesses and towns people for donations for the auction. My husband and I have already donated something to be auctioned off.

The beauty of living in a small town is that the entire community is getting behind this project. I expect a large crowd will attend the dinner and auction. Also, it is a good bet that they will push the prices up at the auction. It would not surprise me to see if some items aren’t given back to be auctioned off again! Just a note, I heard after the event that there was a hunting dog that sold 3 times!

Cookbook Words of Wisdom

Like so many of my “community” cookbooks there are words of wisdom to live by. On the first page , even before the index, is a Recipe for a Happy Kitchen.

All you need is:

  • 4 cups of Love
  • 2 cups of Loytalty
  • 3 cups of Forgiveness
  • 1 cup of Friendship
  • 5 Tablespoons of Hope
  • 2 Tablespoons of Tenderness
  • 7 Teaspoons of Kindnessnd Understanding
  • 4 Quarts of Faith
  • 1 Barrel of Laughter

Take Love and Loyalty, mix it thoroughly with Faith. Blend it with Forgiveness, Tenderness, Kindness and Understanding. Add Friendship and Hope. Sprinkle abundantly with Laughter. Bake it with sunshine. Garnish with hugs and kisses. Serve generously daily.

Isn’t this a wonderful way to start your day? How can you go wrong with that?

More Cookbook Words of Wisdom

I also found a recipe telling me how to cook an elephant! That takes time to prepare and cook!! But it feeds a crowd and is a good dish to take to that pot-luck dinner.

Then there are recipes that have been tossed down from generation to generation. There is a recipe for soda crackers! Our ancestors coming across the plains in the covered wagons did not have the grocery store to buy these. Or there is a recipe for play dough. You will be able to entertain the grandkids with this. So much wisdom.

In conclusion I suggest you leave me in peace for a little while so that I can check out all of the bits of wisdom and all of my new menu choices. I think I might even pour myself a glass of Fine Wine to help set the mood. I invite everyone to enjoy all of these cookbooks with me.
